Jeffrey Mantz is an Anthropology Professor at the University. He has 235 students in his class. It´s not an easy class, because students have to study re-text the political live of the death bodies, reburial and post social exchange. His class seems a History class.
What do zombies have to do with the Caribbean?
A zombie is historically a slave , that means, someone who is possessed and it has connection with the idea of having the mindless trance under control.
What happened in 1968? What kind of transformation did zombies experiment back then?
It was a change about living/death concept.
The new idea has relationship with returning to life after death. Zombies become walking wolfs or features like in Michael Jackson video and, during the Cold War they switched to rejection and radiological objects going back to the Earth.
How did Prof. Mantz’s students react differently when they watched “28 Days Later” and “Night of the Living Dead”?
When students saw “Night of the Living Dead” they thought the movie was funny but for the teacher it was terrify movie years ago. However, when they watched “28 Days Later” everyone was in total silence.
In conclusion, what do zombies represent today?
They represent how we are when we show our worst side.
